The costs for our employment advice depend on whether you are an employee or an employer and the type of work you need us to do.
Settlement Agreements
If you are an employee and your employer has offered you a settlement agreement, we can usually advise you without any charge to you personally.

Employment Tribunal Claims
Employees
If you are an employee needing legal advice on an employment tribunal claim, we can usually act for you on a ‘no-win no-fee’ basis. This means that you don’t have to pay us anything unless you successfully recover compensation.
If your claim is successful, our fee is usually between 15% and 33% of the amount you recover (including VAT). The percentage will vary depending on the complexity of the claim and the prospects of success.
Sometimes, we may need to instruct a barrister to represent you at a tribunal hearing. The barrister’s fee will depend on how long the hearing is. The typical fee for a one day hearing is £1,000 plus VAT, which would be payable whether or not you are successful.
It usually takes about 6 months for a simple claim to reach the stage of a hearing. More complex claims are likely to take longer and would therefore be more expensive.
Employers
If you are an employer defending an employment tribunal claim, our charges will depend on how much work we need to do to bring the matter to a conclusion.
Our hourly rate is £300 + VAT. Typically, the cost of defending a tribunal claim to the end of a one day hearing will be between £10,000 and £15,000 + VAT.
In addition, you may need to pay a barrister’s fee of £1,000 + VAT.
It usually takes about 6 months for a tribunal claim to reach the stage of a hearing. The costs may be considerably less if the claim concludes by way of a settlement at an early stage.
However, the costs may be more if the claim is more complex and the hearing is likely to take longer than one day.
Other types of advice
For other types of advice, the cost depends on how long we spend on your matter. Our normal hourly rate is £300 + VAT.
We will be able to provide you with more accurate costs information when we discuss what you need us to do.
